Youth 2030 Cities is a youth-led sustainable urbanization initiative of UN-Habitat in partnership with the Healthy Cities for Adolescents (HCA) program. The goal of this initiative is to strengthen youth voice and participation by building the capacity of young people to meaningfully collaborate with community organizations and local governments to create sustainable cities. The project is currently being implemented in HCA program cities across Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Senegal and Vietnam with the aim of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level.
Youth 2030 Cities will promote and empower youth to share their experiences and creative solutions in sustainable urbanization through a range of activities that are community based. The project supports youth via training workshops in SDG localization, the documentation of systems and mechanisms of youth participation, the development of digital tools and national youth forums that inform long term action to enable policy impact.
The initiative will facilitate the participation of youth in the urban policy discourse and processes by developing Youth DeclarACTIONS in each participating country. These will serve as a roadmap for urban youth action to support the achievement of SDGs and the New Urban Agenda (NUA). The country DeclarACTIONS will be presented at the 11th World Urban Forum in June 2022, towards informing a global DeclarACTION on youth action for the Sustainable Development Goals.
